For many decades, the airport was called Washington National, but the airport was renamed Reagan National in 1998 to honour former U.S. President Ronald W. Reagan. The airport is operated by Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA). It is situated on a total of 860 acres: 733 acres on land and 127 acres underwater. The Airport has 44 gates: 9 in Terminal A and 35 in Terminal B/C.

Terminal B/C is served by hourly and daily parking garages. Courtesy shuttle buses are provided to and from all Terminals to the Economy Lot.
